Dec-Feb 2017 Sketchbook 10-11
Page 10-11/76

Pictured: Skyiiqura (a type of Gaulbacke)

Pg 10
"Compared to its much larger cousin (who stands at almost 7 ft tall, the skyiiqura stands at just 4 ft, half the height.  They make up in speed.  At full speed, the beast clocks in at just over 60 mph.  Its average though is about 40 mph.  This is much faster than the bigger gualbacke, which can only reach speeds of 25 mph.  Only the smallest, faster predators eat them.

Huge splayed talons help the beat keep footing as well as defend itself if need be.

The skyiiqura is white on its belly with a dark tinge on its side with a dark grayish blue on top.  It was light tan/white spots."

Pg 11
"The most dangerous part of its life is when its a baby.  White being able to run, it is somewhat gangly so it is prone to trip if it pushes itself too much.  Its rump and tail are covered in quills so even if a predator can catch it, it will usually get a mouthful of quills.  Its tail is the real weapon white running, it swings back and forth and can hit like a club.

Large quills cover its long tail so anything that can keep up will run the risk of getting injured by this effective tool.

Skyiiqura (gaulbacke)
Class: Mammal    Group: Huge herds (20+)   lead male but bulk of herd is female with smaller (7-9) herds of males
Live Birth: 2-3    like its larger cousin, this creature is rather dull with low saturation hues, but glows on head, tuffs, and tail

The feet and beak are dark gray, almost black"

*Please note that this is a sketchbook and there will be flaws and errors in the writing. I am not overally concerned on how the writing flows when I am creating the entries.

Dec-Feb 2017 Sketchbook 8-9
Page8-9/76

Pictured: Snapper Gaulbacke

The following is what is written left to right from each page...in as much order as possible.

Pg 8
"Unsure of how I want the planet to work.  I know its grassland, leading up to the mountains.  Grassland with caves? Gaps in the ground, like a canyon meets mesa meets limestone."

Pg 9
"Snapper Gaulbacke.  Class: Mammal   Groups: 4-6    Lead male and female and children.  They mate for life
The gaulbacke is a strange creature with no eyes, huge nostrils and quills lining its shoulders.
Its huge "beak" is used in defense and to crack open huge nuts/seeds as well as rip open the ground to get to moist roots.  Below the "beak" us a tuff of fur containing quills to protect its soft throat.
It has basic heat sensors on its head that act like fur.  While it does not have traditional eyes, these heat sensors are very sophisticated.  In some cases, they are better than eyes."

At this point, in the sketchbook, I'm still trying to figure out what I want the actual sketchbook to be so the next few pages are very idea driven.  The rest of the sketchbook is creature heavy.

Page 6-7/76

Pictured: Wvondeiya/Gaulbacke

The following is what is written left to right from each page...in as much order as possible.

Pg 6
"Wvondeiya hunting habits are by no means unique.  Females are often the chasers but its not by much.  They are not very fast so a couple of females in the back wait to disrupt prey by rushing forward.  These are often younger females that are quicker.  Behind them are calves learning.  At the front are older females and young males who are waiting to spring up and take large bites out of the prey.  Often, the males will borrow into the ground in order to bite the necks of they prey.

This method is not always effective and due to this, wvondeiya are omnivores."

Pg 7
"Eats large nuts and uses beak to crush them open.

Dull Grayish golden-brown or smaller specks of gray.

Despite its appearance, this is not a bird, but more of a reptile/mammal mix.  Back fur is the beginning of quills and will stand when "Stressed", mating, fighting or running.  Its a dangerous prey to hunt.

no eyes...? or smaller one... very dull colored but has metallic spots on head, chest and back fluff.  Very common line of creatures, different heads are common (think bird)."

Dec-Feb 2017 Sketchbook 4-5
Page 4-5/76

Pictured:Wvondeiya

The following is what is written left to right from each page...in as much order as possible.

Pg 4
"Wvondeiya borrowing system

Bedding area, long grasses are pilled here to dry for bedding

Root and nut storage, upper storage holds plant matter in case of emergencies

A variety of sleeping dens offer choice to new members or young babies.  if mated, a couple will dominate a den, pushing other out.  Therefore, an abundance of dens is necessary.

The Wvondeiya store meat way down in the tunnels, where temperatures drop to preserving temperatures.  Down here, bad bacteria cannot grow and so aged meat is made."

Pg 5
"Baby Wvondeiya are small, (something?), and a bit chunky.  They spend most of their time sleeping in the burrows. Due to a short mane, the identifying spots are highly visible.  These spots can glow brightly when necessary.

Alpha Den, the largest den is usually the alpha den whee the main couple sleep with their offspring if they have any.  They will also collect items like shinny rocks (beginnings of currency).

Uh, like a wresting match but didn't like the pose."

Page 2-3/76

Pictured:Wvondeiya

"Wvondeiya/Wvondeilla (Von-day-a)

Mammal, Male/Female, Packs of 4-15 led by eldest couple.  They are about 200 lbs and the size of a long (but short) St.bernard so 2-3 ft tall and 6 feet long.  They are omnivorous, favoring meat over other sources of food.

This creature has a sort of opposable thumb.  It is used not only to groom fur, but also to hold, grasp and build components of its complex burrow system.  Males will also "wrestle" to gain the favor of females.  The strongest one is often  the alpha although their are other ways to draw a female's attention.

This creature can come in a variety of color combinations.  It can be beautiful in that regard.  Base coat are shades of grayish earth tones including common (browns and grays), uncommon (reds and golds), and rare (whites and blacks).  The manes are shades of rich earth tones, usually matching the base coat but sometimes they have dorsal marking where colors are darker.

While short and small, the creature's four legs play an important role in both hunting practices and living habitats.  Filled with muscle, these short legs have the power to lunch the creature up with relative ease.  It can be lunches to grab hold of pray with strong claws. When food is scarce, it uses its claws to dig at the earth finding nutritious roots and nuts.  The creature also lives in burrows in complex family units ruled by the eldest creature.  Under this animal is their mate and children and then younger generations.  Females are more the hunter and males the builders."

I graduated from Cornell College with a degree in Fine Arts and Secondary Education. I am aspiring to be an art teacher but for now I am subbing at the local school districts. I do mostly traditional art with an emphasis in pen/ink, creature design, and large scale sculpture.

For now I do all my art in my spare time but I do wish one day to supplement my income as a teacher with my art. Not only would it be wonderful to have others support my art monetarily but it would also show my students that art is not a hobby one wastes time with.
